Common App: The Official Start of the College Application Season

For the Class of 2025, August 1st is a milestone day. This date marks the official start of application season. Why? Because this is the day that the Common Application opens.

The Common App platform, founded in 1975, is a valuable tool that simplifies the college application process, allowing students to apply to most of their colleges and universities with one single application. This year, more than 1,100 colleges and universities provide students the opportunity to apply through the Common App.

Class 101-Lexington seniors are guided through the start of the application process through a series of Common App 1.0 workshops held during the first days of August. They will have the opportunity to set up their accounts, and review best practices for each section. The following week, Common App 2.0 workshops will be held where they will continue to prepare applications that show the colleges the best of what they have accomplished. This is also the time to celebrate the hard work completed by our students in preparation for this important next step.

“I’m excited that this day is finally here!” said Emma, a senior from Montgomery County who has been working with Class 101-Lexington since her freshman year. “I’ve put in lots of work to prepare for applying to colleges, and now, with the help of my college advisor, I have everything I need to structure an application that I’m really proud of.”

Tom Pabin, Founder of Class 101 and co-owner of Class 101-Lexington, emphasizes the proactive approach that college planning provides for its students. “Most of our rising seniors have main essays that are complete or near completion. They are ready now to turn their full attention to their applications. With our guidance and support, these will be completed efficiently, ready for student application submit parties in September and October. That’s proactive college planning.”

Class 101-Lexington families have the peace of mind knowing that their college planning journey is in the hands of trusted experts. When it comes to college planning, it’s hard to know where to start. And that’s why Class 101-Lexington is here: to help students and families connect the dots and show how to make college planning simple.
