Class 101-Dayton Awards Five Scholarships

Class 101-Dayton recognized five outstanding seniors in the Class of 2024 with scholarships, including the fourth consecutive winner of a national 101 Scholar award.

Maggie Peter, a Badin High School graduate who will attend Purdue University, is one of only four national 101 Scholars selected from nearly 600 applications. The 101 Scholar program celebrates students who excel in leadership, academics, and making a difference in their communities. Applications could be an essay or video; Maggie submitted a video describing extensive record of community service and her work with the cause Underpants for All, supplying several hundreds of pairs of underwear to families in need in Butler County. The 101 Scholar award is a one time award of $3000. In addition to this award, Peter set records in her college application process, receiving more than one million dollars worth of scholarship offers from the schools to which she was accepted. At Purdue University, Maggie plans to major in Computer Science in the John Martinson Honors College.

In addition to the national 101 Scholar award, Class 101-Dayton presented four $500 local scholarships. Two local 101 Scholar awards were given. Dax Theis, a 2024 graduate of Springboro High School, will attend Florida State University. The 101 Scholar award recognized his contribution as a coach to his high school baseball program after injuries made it impossible for him to play. Kaylee Johnson, a 2024 graduate of Centerville High School, will attend the University of Cincinnati  to major in interior design in the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. The 101 Scholar award recognized her efforts to support peer mental health in high school.

Class 101-Dayton also  awarded two $500 scholarships in honor of Beth Jamison who passed away in November 2021. Jamison, a vocal music teacher at Springboro High School, “welcomed and encouraged all students to find and share their unique voice in her classroom. Beth proved that music could be an incredible force for understanding and equality in our schools and communities,” said Class 101 Owner Karen Lane DeRosa. Ashley Zimmer, 2024 graduate of Springboro High School, will attend the University of Cincinnati to major in Dance and Communications. Henry Klasing, 2024 graduate of Springboro High School, will attend Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory to study music composition and music education.

Class 101 Dayton awarded four local scholarships this year, including two Jamison Find Your Voice Scholarships to students in the arts.
