Class 101 Student Awarded Lilly Scholarship

Big congratulations are in order to our Class 101 student who was recently awarded the Lilly
Endowment Scholarship in Hendricks County. Aahan beat out the competition, receiving a
significant scholarship, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Each year, Class 101 advisors help students navigate the application process to receive the prestigious
scholarship, and for good reason: the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship covers the full cost of
tuition to any college or university in the state of Indiana!

Students who receive the scholarship are awarded full tuition, required fees, and a book stipend for four
years. The scholarship is awarded to students, who compete based on their county, in each of Indiana’s
92 counties. To date, we have been notified that five Class 101 students have been selected as 2023 Lilly
Scholarship recipients.

This year, Aahan was a Lilly Scholarship winner in Henricks County. He kindly agreed to answer a few
questions so we could feature him (can you tell how proud we are?)

Q&A with Aahan

Where were you when you learned you won the Lilly Scholarship, and how did it make you feel?
I was chomping on some double stuff Oreos in my kitchen and a random Plainfield number called. I
thought I wouldn’t answer it, then I remembered it might be for the Lilly scholarship. Upon answering
Eric (the interviewer) told me how great the candidate pool was this year and that I had some big
decisions to make because I was a Lilly scholar. I then headed to Starbucks to celebrate.

What is the most exciting part of winning this scholarship?
It allows me the opportunity to explore all of the amazing schools in our state and make the best
decision for my education, rather than limit my options based on overall costs.

The Lilly Scholarship is often given to students who give back to their communities. In what ways have you given back or been involved in your community?

Firecrafter, which is a sister program to Boy Scouts, is where I was a leader and accomplished high
skills. I also participate in Boy Scouts and completed my Eagle Project helping fix up our Brownsburg
parks. Specifically, my project fixed a theater stage that elementary students use. I also serve as NHS
President and plan events for my peers to give back.

How did Class 101 help you in the Lilly scholarship application process?
Class 101 helped me streamline my thoughts for the interview prep. I tend to ramble. Without the
amount of interview practice we did in the office I wouldn’t have been able to present my answers as
clearly as I did for my interview. Additionally, for the essay and application portion Class 101 helped me
turn in the application early as well as prioritize the information. We discussed the best ways to write
the essay and how to use the short response sections to help me stand out rather than relying solely on
one essay. Ms. Alyssa and Ms. Rylee helped me with every edit, and it’s one of the best essays I have ever produced. Without the help of Class 101, I wouldn’t have been as prepared for each step as I was. And I doubt I would have made it to the interview round. Thank you Class 101 for supporting me and helping me so much!

We want to extend our congratulations to Aahan, and thank him for taking the time to chat with us!

Not all students aim to apply to highly selective colleges. However, for those who do, our initialrecommendation is to discuss the courses they should take in high school. Having a course selection plan early in their high school career is important, as it gives students time to effectively outline theiracademic path. We believe that course […]

Making The Most of Your College Visit

8-10. That’s the number of college visits we recommend for each Class 101 student. After advising thousands of high school students through the college selection process, we’ve seen many instances where students with a dream school in mind visit that campus, only to realize that college is nothing like they expected it to be. While […]
