After many years of using the ISTEP test to measure academic performance, the state is making a major switch to adopting a digital SAT as the primary standardized evaluation test this year. In March, every Indiana junior will sit for the SAT test implemented during the day at their high school. These scores can be used for college applications and is a new pathway to graduation.
Class 101 in Carmel is helping students prep for the quickly approaching test to take advantage of this free SAT test opportunity. View our segment on FOX59 where our very own Randy Stegemoller spoke with Angela Ganote about the upcoming changes to testing in Indiana.
Hoosier students can set themselves up for a successful SAT by following Class 101’s tips:
• This traditionally paper-based test will be computerized which means students should practice using the computer’s calculator as it is the only calculator permitted during the test.
• Students who require accommodations may be exempt from taking the SAT online and should speak to their school counselor prior to the test for approval.
• Enroll in a SAT test prep course to maximize test scores.
Other things to note about the newly digitized SAT:
• The newly redesigned version will take approximately 2 hours, compared to the 3 hours students spent taking the paper test
• Math problems are expected to be less wordy
• Reading passages will be shorter
• Test scores will be available sooner—expected within days of finishing the exam
